Out of all the crystals, Amethyst is perhaps one of the most well-known and highly admired for both its exquisite beauty and ability to inspire and calm both the emotion and the mind. In today’s classification, it is a semi-precious stone, but the ancient considered it on the same level as gold and diamonds, even referring to it as a “Gem of Fire”. Ever since the Gregorian calendar existed, it has been associated with the month of February, which happens to be the month I was born. February, traditionally, was dedicated by the Romans to Neptune, a god of the water and ocean, whose sacred stone was Amethyst. I believe in today’s world it can still be utilized in all of the ways the ancients used it, if not more. I consider it a stone of spirituality and calmness first most, since a lot of its other qualities can be seen as deriving from these. I have used it as a general metaphysical enhancer during Spellwork and to stimulate a heightened meditative state. I have also heard of it being used commonly in a protective manner to ward against both physical attacks and more subtle ones (whether intentionally magical or simply from being around a mentally repressive or aggressive individual). I have considered using it during studying or tests to keep my mind free from distractions and concentrated on the task at hand, though I have not been given a good opportunity to use it in this manner as of yet. From what I know about chakras, I am aware that Amethyst is used to stimulate the Third Eye, which has metaphysical and spiritual meaning all to itself. I have further been told that Amethyst can bring about wisdom and understanding, which I think derives from its primary quality of
