When describing the movie Felix was watching, the author uses idioms to depict one of the scenes. Paragraph 39: "The champion was getting the daylights beat out of him. He was saved only by the sound of the bell." The champion was not literally getting the daylights beat out of him; it's just a phrase to convey that he was getting beaten up by his opponent. It is more interesting to use that phrase instead of blandly writing: "He got beaten up." Similes are similar to metaphors in that they provide a subject for the reader to correlate the writing to. It gives a more subtle impact; instead of outright stating the subject as the object it is being compared to, it uses the words like or as to show that the subject is similar. During one of the scenes of the match, Felix was caught in the heat of the battle. Paragraph 79: "Round two. Felix was off his stool and rushed Antonio like a bull."
