Amy Poehler’s Struggle against Sleep Apnea and How It Is Treated
Having enough sleep is very important for one’s overall health. After all, it is when the body gets to heal and repair itself in preparation for the following day. However, there are some people who experience trouble in sleeping like Amy Poehler.
She mentioned that when Archie was just three months old, she recalled having fallen asleep a couple of times at work. There were times when she has fallen asleep with her eyes open and while standing up. Just like the other mothers in the world, she suffered from sleep deprivation after giving birth. So, she slept whenever she can even during lunch and production meetings.
For Poehler, sleep can change the way people feel not only about themselves but also about their everyday lives. She said that it helps people win at life. She went to a sleep center located a Beverly Hills to seek for help. There, she was asked about her troubles in which she shared that she snored at times. In reality, the people around her have already told her that she snores loudly. She also came from a family who snores.
After meeting up with her doctor, she was told that she is suffering from sleep apnea. It is a condition in which a person stops breathing briefly while they are sleeping. She was also asked how many times she thought she woke up in which she said about 4-5 times. However, her doctor told her that she actually woke up about 20-30 times.
Initially, she thought that she would be sent to a sleep rehab center but she was sent home instead. Her doctor asked her to bring home a CPAP machine with her.
