The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler exploits the corruption and the absence of justice that was present in the 1930s. The novel is set in Los Angeles, which at the time was full of scheming city workers. The combination of dynamic and static characters in the story leads the reader into a whirlwind of murders that are unavenged. “Good-guy” detective Phillip Marlowe, is seen as a modern-day knight, left to slay the dragon and rescue the damsel in distress. However, the inexplicable amount of “dragons” that Chandler presents in the novel hinder Marlowe from being able to accomplish his goals without obstacles.

This is a time to bond for a lot of parents that work and are away from their babies all day. These sleeping arrangements can affect the child when having family gatherings. The baby in the Guatemalan culture may fall asleep causing the parent to take them to a quiet area to sleep and the American mother may have to struggle with her baby to get them to sleep.

This strange phenomenon happens often, and the term for it is “sleep paralysis.” according to Penn State University, their research shows that it happens more often in students and psychiatric patients (University Park,2011). III. So, what exactly is sleep paralysis?
Why do we sleep? What is the purpose? We sleep for many different reasons, but we still to this day don’t know all of the secrets of sleep. For centuries we thought that our brain shut down while we slept, but that is not the case. Infact, our brain is always emitting some type of brain waves during sleep, whether really slow, or to the point of wakefulness.

The last ten days I logged what I was eating, when I went to bed, how many times I woke up during the night, and when I woke up for the day. As soon as I woke up for the day, I wrote as much as I could remember about the dream/ s I had.
Sleep paralysis is when, during awakening or falling asleep, a person is aware but unable to move.[1][2] During an episode, one may hear, feel, or see things that are not there.[1] It often results in fear.[1] Episodes generally last less than a couple of minutes.[2]
I have always had trouble falling asleep and staying asleep throughout the night. For at least the last 10 years, I was averaging about three to four hours of sleep during the work week and between five to six hours on my days off. I was a shift worker and constantly rotated shifts throughout those years. I tried everything to sleep from over the counter to doctor prescribed medication. It was hopeless and I was exhausted.
