In the beginning of the story, Alice leaves her ordinary world and falls down a rabbit hole. This marks the beginning of a road of strange adventures ahead of her. Being Black in America After, reading “Nineteen Fifty-five” by Alice Walker and “Sonny’s Blues” by James Baldwin. Both stories deal with struggles of African American people. I sit down at this point and ponder around what it is to be Black in America. I comprehend exactly how there are countless influences that shakes African American folks day-to-day. One of the most negative forces destroying at young black people in America today is the widespread art, music, and literatures appearances of what a black individual is supposed to look like and how that individual is supposed to convey themselves.

In the first paragraph, Alice Walker clearly emphasises Myops purity and young innocence with the quote “She skipped lightly from hen house to pigpen.” This demonstrates how happy Myop is in this setting, we can identify she feels safe here, “ She felt light and good in the warm sun.”

While she was sitting up there she looked around trying to think of something to do. Then all of the sudden a white rabbit ran by so she followed it. The white rabbit, dove down a hole and she looked back at her sister to see if her sister had noticed that she was gone. Her sister didn't notice that Alice had wandered off so she decided to follow the rabbit.
The story “The flowere” by Alice Walker is about a young girl named Mayop who sudden fall from innocence. Myop is happy and carefree as she skips around her family playing with the animals. She does not look beyond her free comfortable childhood. She decides to explore the woods as she had done many times with her mother in late autumn while gathering nuts.
