“Nyx was a lot of things, but forgettable wasn't one of them.” Nyxnissa so Dasheem is a character that forces the reader think, analyze and discuss with a group of people. She is certainly not forgettable. A multi-layered, controversial protagonist and just when you think you’ve reached the center, you’re presented with more to learn, more to discover and more to hate or love. Her moral compass is damaged but she refuses to admit it. She’s a liar, she uses those who love her, she inspires a sickening loyalty from people she knows and she’s unrepentant in her ways. It’s also fascinating how she wants to be loved by a man who is at times revolted by her dogma. We need more female characters like Nyxnissa so Dasheem, we need the messed up gruesome strata and the strong self-righteous hypocrite that comes with it. …show more content…

The book begins with Nyxnissa so Dasheem guarding the daughter of a Ras Tiegan diplomat as they go shopping in Mushtallah. What appears to be a lackluster time for Nyx ends up in a gun slinging fight; wherever Nyx travels, danger is continuously looming. A squad of Bel Dames tries to kill her while on the job. The Bel Dame’s don’t fare well in the fight against her. This event forces Nyx into Bel Dame Politics once more. It leads her to discover the greater conflict brewing, Bel Dames against the monarchy and several attempts against the Queen. Nyx now feels compelled to join the fight and discover who is behind it all and why there was a red note against her in
