An epic hero is a person who is admired for their courage, achievements, and qualities. Odysseus struggles to return to his home for ten years after the Trojan War. It took him a long time because Poseidon, the god of the sea, constantly hindered Odysseus from going back to his home. Although some argue that Odysseus is dishonest and prideful, the main character, Odysseus, in The Odyssey by Homer is an epic hero. Throughout his journey, Odysseus reveals his heroism by facing challenges and being respected.
The Beatles are one of the most iconic bands of all time, known for their unique sound that blended various genres of music together seamlessly . Their music was heavily influenced by African American popular music, which is evident in many of their songs together and apart. In this essay, I will discuss four songs by the Beatles, one by each member, and observe as well as explain the influence of African American popular music on their music. For example, “Roses” by George Watsky sounds really upbeat and all, but the meaning is much darker when you actually listen to the lyrics. The song has about five stanzas and is four minutes and nine seconds long. The speaker can be determined as either Watsky himself or just someone having to make a tough decision. The mood of the song is believed to be hopeful or sad because of the deeper meaning behind it.

The Beatles changed fashion; in hope to be like the band, boys started growing their hair out, purchasing cheap suits, and buying boots just like The Beatles. The sixties were about personal liberation, with this in mind, The Beatles had perfected a soundtrack to go with that.
They were creating things out of the box that no one could imagine. The famous song “Tomorrow Never Knows” stood out from other songs being produced at the time. Using unaccustomed techniques “The song itself sounded like virtually nothing the band had recorded up to that point,” (Dempsey). The Beatles were pushing themselves musically. They were setting an example for other musical groups showing that experimenting with sound and going beyond comfort will pay off in the long run.
The innocent looking teen boys of the Beatles made their way to America in 1964 and sung their way into the hearts of many teenage girls, singing tunes such as “I Want To Hold Your Hand” and “Love Me Do”. The Beatles quickly rose up to the top, to become the top selling artists of all time, selling almost 200 million units. In the Beatles later years the ‘Fab Four’ became big icons for the peace movement, developing a hippie style and showing it off in their music. Songs such as “Let It Be” and “Across The Universe” show The Beatles chameleon ability, and how they changed with the times, from innocent mop head teens to hippie icons.
Before The Beatles became a band they were individual musicians all with people they looked up to and all with musicians they wanted to take certain traits form. Having four members of the band created a wide variety of influences on the band as a whole by combining the individual members pervious musical repertoire. Starting with George Harrison, his guitar work was influenced by American rockabilly music by Eddie Cochran and Carl Perkins that influenced the band’s songs throughout the years. He also incorporated the melodic lines and slight fills that both Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton created. John Lennon was a huge fan of Elvis, his opinion implied that the there was no true music before Elvis’s time.
They referred to a drug called LSD in one of their songs and it became widely popular. It was a legal drug at they did it often and wrote about it.
