We all depend on the environment to live. A safe and clean environment is important to a healthy and sustainable living that is imperative to the full enjoyment of a wide range of human rights, including the rights to life, health, food, water, and sanitation. Without the environment, we will be unable to fulfill our aspirations or even live at a level commensurate with minimum standards of human dignity. Our quality of life depends on the type of environment that we live in. A cramped and highly dense environment gives rise to problems in health, sanitation, and shelter among others. While we have environmental laws in place which seeks to protect both nature for itself, and for the benefit of humankind on local and global scale, the seemingly indifferent ways of human beings has continuously given rise to problems in our environment. The preservation of our environment is a concern not only of environment rights groups but of each invidiual living on this planet. Our ecosystem is built on the premise of a symbiotic relationship. While human beings are on top of the food chain, we should remember that there will be no food for us if the basic forms of life in our ecosystem is destroyed. We should take care of our environment while we still can and this should start on a personal level. We should make a conscious effort in the choices that we make to preserve our environment.
