In Niccolo Machiavelli's book, The Prince (1513), he evaluates on how a prince can be a successful leader. Machiavelli’s purpose of this guidebook was to construct his argument to the rising ruler Giuliano de Medici for when he comes to power in Florence. He adopts a casual but authoritative tone in order to convince the prince that Machiavelli’s evaluation on how to be the best prince, is the right thing for the prince to do without coming off as he knows more than the prince or is trying to intimidate him.. Machiavelli’s reference to previous rulers and whether their tactics failed or succeeded helps to benefit his credibility along with his allusion to historic text. He appeals to our logic by simply stating a prince can only do what is within his power to control, and his use of an analogy furthers his argument.
Tim LaRocca Persepolis KPA In the book “Persepolis”, the author Marjane Satrapi, uses excellent diction to help the reader obtain knowledge and gain understanding of her main purpose in a specific passage or chapter of the book. Despite her specific word choice, it is challenging for readers to truly understand her main purpose only through literary terms and devices used throughout the book. Therefore, to help increase the readers ability to understand the main purpose of a certain specific passage, Satrapi uses an extensive amount of precise graphic elements. For example, in the passage “Kim Wilde”, Satrapi is able to express her main purpose that when governments tend to restrict the people too much, and become oppressive, the people tend to resist their law and rebel against the law by using the graphic elements of shading and facial expressions to express her purposes in and easier and clearer visual way.
Cicero was born in 106 BCE and was a Roman orator, lawyer, statesman and philosopher during his life before he passed away in 43 BCE at the age of 63 years old. Cicero came from a wealthy landowning family and studied law and rhetoric under a celebrated Roman orator and statesman and whilst witnessing numerous great orators speak at trials he became inspired to seek fame and glory as a trial advocate and political leader, a decision which would change Rome forever. In the year 81 BCE, Cicero launched his career as a trial advocate where he mostly argued for the defence in criminal cases. At the age of 30, Cicero decided to begin a political career with the goal of becoming a consul.

Ethos, a rhetorical device that establishes credibility and principles, can be found at the beginning of the speech Brutus delivers to the plebians; Brutus states, “Be patient till the last. Romans, Countrymen, and lovers, hear me for my cause, and be silent, that you may hear. Believe me for mine honor, and have respect to mine honor, that you may believe. Censure me in your wisdom, and awake your senses” (III.ii. 13-18).

Once Upon a Time in Anatolia provided many different sources of human emotion, some different from the American ways and some the same. The director tested the audience’s patience, by opening very slowly but making sure he showed reactions and facial and body expressions very well. In the beginning while they were searching for the body the camera would begin far away with the cars coming in the distance, you would hear the men speaking. As the camera got closer the thing that stood out the most was the facial expressions Kenan has and will have for the entirety of the movie. He has a look of desperation, and depression.
