Survival comes down too many factors, the main ones being Intelligent, calmness,strategy and most importantly the fight or flight instinct and weather you choose to save others or just yourself. In survival situations those factors are very important. In three texts, ‘An Ordinary Man’, ‘Deep Survival’ and ‘Is Survival Selfish’ those main factors were important to the survival to all of the people in the texts and they all can be related to the unit 5 PBA quote ‘To endure what is unendurable is true endurance.”. The texts provide different situations where survival is necessary, from hanging off of a mountain, falling out of a plain and into the jungle and even enduring a genocide! Survival could also require selflessness. The text, An Ordinary Man, by Paul Rusesabagina, relates to the Unit 5 quote “To endure what is unendurable is true endurance” because Paul had to endure a genocide. He was able to sit through mass murder while at the same time helping people, though he knew that some of the people he was helping could wind up getting him killed. He helped over 1,000 people. Paul witnessed death after death but never gave up. He somehow kept a level head throughout most of the genocide. Paul endured what most people couldn’t, while at the same time providing for strangers. People he didn't even have to help. All the favors he called in, all the times he bribed people could have just been for the benefit of him and his family. Instead of them going for all the people he kept inside of his hotel. “I had stored up a large bank of favors. I cashed them all in-and then borrowed heavily-during the genocide.” (An Ordinary Man). This piece of text proves what was said about Paul using his favors not just for him and his family, but for the others in the hotel as well. This supports what was said because, before this was stated in the text it was brought up that Paul was helping people who were in his hotel.
