Even though Lenin wasn’t around long after the revolution, he played one of the biggest roles in the revolution because he got the people to fight back against the government. Lenin and many other people of the Russian revolution represent characters in Animal Farm because they were very important to the success of the
The book Animal Farm is an allegory which corresponds to the Russian Revolution. In the book, the animals take over the farm and run the humans off of the property. They are tired of being treated cruelly and decide to take things into their own matters. This is where “war” between animal and man start. The Russian Revolution had much in common with this but also has its differences.
One of Orwell 's goals in writing Animal Farm was to portray the Russian (or Bolshevik) Revolution of 1917 as one that resulted in a government more oppressive, totalitarian, and deadly than the one it overthrew. Many of the characters and events of Orwell 's novel parallel those of the Russian Revolution: In short, Manor Farm is a model of Russia, and old Major, Snowball, and Napoleon represent the dominant figures of the Russian Revolution. Mr. Jones is modeled on Tsar Nicholas II (1868-1918), the last Russian emperor. His rule (1894-1917) was marked by his insistence that he was the uncontestable ruler of the nation. During his reign, the Russian people experienced terrible poverty and upheaval, marked by the Bloody Sunday massacre in 1905 when unarmed protesters demanding social reforms were shot down by the army near Nicholas ' palace.
Animal farm written by George Orwell tells the story of the Russian revolution through the eyes and actions of farm animals. The animals revolt against their farmer Mr.Jones in order to stop the cruelty being inflicted on them. In a turn of events the new leader Napoleon also starts to treat the animals unfairly. We see in the last chapter the quote “The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig… but already it was impossible to say which was which”. Showing the cycle the animalism tried to break when they revolted has been repeated once again.
The Animal Farm Revolution and the Russian Revolution had many similar events that took place. First the citizens were badly treated. For example, the animals were overworked and fed very little due to Farmer Jones drinking. Likewise, the Russian people were paid a very small amount of money for food. Another way the the two revolutions were similar is that the people/ animals fought to overthrow the leaders.

In the book Animal Farm there are many similarities to the Russian Revolution of 1917 making it almost a history book in some sense. One of Orwell 's goals in writing Animal Farm was to portray the Russian Revolution of 1917 as one that resulted in a government more oppressive, totalitarian, and deadly than the one it overthrew. There are three parallels I will be sharing between the Russian revolution and animal farm I noticed when reading the book many relating to the personitly and behavoirs of the charaters. Furthermore, when people's opinions are ignored and there is subsistence of a weak monarchy the spark of indignation will be build up. The Russian Revolution of 1905 was was a wave of difficulties that citizens were leaving under the leadership of Tsar Nicholas II. In Animal Farm Napoleon became totalitarian dictator of the farm with the idea that every animal was equal. Orwell states, “Somehow it seemed that the farm had grown richer without making the animals themselves any reacher except, of course, for the pigs and the dogs” (.....). This demonstrates that animals wanted a revolution where there was equal rights but Napoleon crowned himself emperor.
Revolutions: when they come to mind we think of these potent moments when changes are being made, where people stand together for a better life. But, in reality, revolutions always end exactly where they began or “have begun”. The Bolshevik Revolution is one of those situations. The Russian revolution started because while Nicholas II, the king, was ruling, there were chronic food shortages, and everyone lived in poverty. A man named Vladimir Lenin successfully over through Nicolas but, like most revolutions, he turned out to be just as bad as Nicholas II, and he developed the Communist party ( History, 2011).

In 1917, the Czarist Regime was the cause of most Russian's losing their faith and religion. About a month later, 90,000 women and men supported and gathered with each other, which led with them swarming the Russian Capitol. In Animal Farm, the pigs overrule everyone and eat all the food they want while the other animals are struggling day by day which led to the animals fighting and rioting with each other.
It is important to remember that this period represented the recent past and present at the time of writing and that Orwell understands the significance of the story’s action to be immediate and ongoing rather than historical. Analytical Review Chapter 1 Although Orwell aims his satire at totalitarianism in all of its guises - communist, fascist, and capitalist - Animal Farm owes its structure largely to the events of the Russian Revolution as they unfolded between 1917 and 1944. Because of Animal Farm’s parallels with the Russian
