“Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” This quote by Lord Acton tells us that a person's first intentions and morals tend to lessen as their power increases. This relates to the Russian Revolution and the allegorical novel Animal Farm by George Orwell. Both of the leaders post-revolution started for the people, but the more power they gained and the longer they had it the more corrupt the became. It all came down to three main points; new ideology, hatred for their leaders as motivation, and a common goal. The Animal Farm Revolution and the Russian Revolution had many similar events that took place. First the citizens were badly treated. For example, the animals were overworked and fed very little due to Farmer Jones drinking. Likewise, the Russian people were paid a very small amount of money for food. Another way the the two revolutions were similar is that the people/ animals fought to overthrow the leaders. First the two of them were very influential and well respected. For example, Old Major was so highly regarded that the animals were willing to lose an hour of their already short night to hear his speech. Similarly, the Russian people looked up to him, and were blindly willing to follow his ideas. Another thing the two of them were similar is that they came up with new ideology. Old Major gave a speech about overthrowing man in order to live a much happier life. He believed everyone was equal. Likewise, Marx gave the idea to join together and rebel for freedom.
