Analysis Of Chapter Five Of Pope Francis 'Love Made Fruitful'

The role duel parents play within our society seems to be dwindling fast. The care and love needed to bring up a child needs to be supported by the wholeness of the family members. The role of parents should not be taken lightly since it makes a vital impact on the child. Pope Francis addresses various issues relating to the family in his recent letters. In Chapter Five of Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation on the Joy of Love, entitled “Love Made Fruitful,” the responsibility and importance of love and care of children by both parents is stressed as an integral part of a fruitful marriage in the formation of their child.

Pope Francis warns that a “the weakening of the maternal presence poses a grave risk to our world.” He explains that motherhood had a particular “mission in our society.” It is a mission that society must preserve for without mothers, our society would be “dehumanized.” Pope Francis continues his argument on the necessity of a mother’s dedication to a child for moral strength and development of religious practices. For without mothers there would be “no new faithful.” He contends that faith would not be the same for it would lose it’s “simple and profound warmth.” Pope Francis chose the word profound with its Latin root, fund, which means foundation. Mothers possess the quality to “communicate the deepest meaning of religious practice.” The point he makes with this word is mothers lay the foundation for a child’s moral development. He also argues that mothers help a child to grow in their self-esteem. Pope Francis also clearly notes that mothers are the “strongest antidote in the spread of self-centered individualism.” Antidote is derived from the Greek root meaning preventive or against.
