In the book, Fahrenheit 451, Captain Beatty who is the head Fireman of the city, says that books are not allowed in society because its cancerous if someone reads the other person wants to read and it can create conflict and that becomes inequality. Captain Beatty starts by saying that the job they do in their city involves fire but they don’t take out the fire. In addition, they start the fire by burning the whole house down because a citizen is not allowed to have a book which causes conflict. He describes it by saying that the books are like a loaded gun, it can be contagious just like a virus. For example, Captain Beatty explains “a book is like a loaded gun next door we have to burn it take the shot from the weapon”(Page 58)
“If they give you ruled paper, write the other way.” -Juan Ramon Jimenez. Things are lead the wrong way when technology becomes more developed. There are a lot of things that are changed, and the change is not for the better. People are just to in sync to notice that things aren’t right at all.
“‘They took him screaming off to the asylum. ‘He wasn’t insane.’ Beatty arranged his card quietly. “ Any man is insane who thinks he can fool the government and us.’” (Bradbury,31) Guy Montag and Captain Beatty are both characters from the book, Fahrenheit 451.
Webster’s Dictionary defines character as, “the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual”, these qualities can range from a simple opinion, to an action, to a character’s lifestyle. While Guy Montag from Fahrenheit 451 and Wade from Ready Player One are both uniquely distinct, they share many qualities that unites them as one. The first similarity of the two characters is that they both come from a world where modern technology consumes everyone’s daily lives, and both Wade and Montag must realize that a virtual reality, whilst perfect in sense, is not the truth. Montag realizes this after Clarisse asks him if he is truly happy, his immediate answer is a defensive yes, but after his wife tries to commit suicide, and Montag starts to think about his situation, he realizes that his response to Clarisse was a lie.
We think that without an education, we won’t have a job. We think that the smarter you are, the more money you have. Different people are good at different things you put them to work and it clicks right away and you love your job you’re not going to think of it as a job it’s going to be a hobby you get paid for. You’ll never work a day in your life if you enjoy your job. That’s what people should be looking for something that you enjoy doing.
Imagine a society designed to stop people from thinking and being unique. A place where people constantly have little music playing devices in their ears and watch television. A tightly controlled society so determined to stay as it is that media is controlled and books are burned. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury imagined all these things and created a story with them. He creates many different characters with very diverse stories, one of them named Beatty.
Imagine living a life where every single thing you do is controlled by someone else. In this story by Ray Bradbury, Guy Montag and the rest of the citizens in the city are being controlled by what they do because Captain Beatty and the government are trying to erase the past to create a new future. This enhanced the novel by creating an antagonist, and protagonist storyline to create suspense and, to add a sense of conflict throughout the book. In Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury uses Captain Beatty to show if society is controlling, citizens are deprived of their individuality.
In the fictional novel "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury, the two character Montag and Clarisse, lived in the future where the government is corrupted. As time evolve and the world is changing, the sense of logic become twisted in this society. The world in "Fahrenheit 451" is a place where the idea of "firemen put fires out" appeared to be "long ago" (Bradbury 25). Firemen in this society no longer put out fire, but instead going to start them. The action of a firemen spraying "kerosene" over burning fire is described as an "amazing conductor playing all the symphonies" suggest that this society is twisted (Bradbury 2).
In the book Fahrenheit 451 Beatty is killed by Montag. To understand this event we need to understand what 's happened. Beatty addresses Montag on the dangers of books. Beatty makes Montag feel intimidated. In his hand is a flamethrower at this time.

Enforcing this law through incineration of book material, homes, and even book owners is the duty of firemen, such as the Chief Captain Beatty, whose insidious personality makes him the quintessence of an antagonist. Beatty's motives were to protect himself from higher power, revealing that people will do almost anything to protect themselves or people they love. In the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, after driving to Montag’s house, Beatty asked him to burn it down. Some would say that this was Beatty’s challenging Montag or that Beatty was doing right and protecting himself. However if Beatty had not taken the calls and burned Montag's home down he would have had consequences for disobeying the rules. The government in the book had been brainwashing their citizens into believing books were bad for society and were constantly distracting them.
Nearly every story has a protagonist needs an antagonist or some sort of evil to fight and that's the same for this story. Captain Beatty, a ruthless antagonist, and leader of the fire company that burns countless lives along with the books. Beatty believes everyone should live life in this world through instant pleasure instead of going through any form of pain. Beatty wants all the books he finds to be burned and they shouldn't be read. However, he may have enjoyed reading at one point because he has a vast knowledge of literature as he's proven to Montag and the readers by quoting many different books in his speeches.

Bradbury structures his sentences in such a way that it makes the described situation feel heavier, and more meaningful. His vocabulary adds a rich sense of imagery, this is also combined with his use of figurative language throughout, compliments it further. These things come together to form a type of style that’s powerful, bizarre, and even confusing at times.
