Starting from the latest Samsung phones to the always trending Apple products, technology has changed our lives. In the fictional book Feed by M.T. Anderson, it was obviously shown that people couldn't connect with each other anymore. The characters in Feed have gotten so used to having technology that they don’t know how to be there emotionally for someone when they are feeling sad. This was shown when Violet finally came out to being sick. In fact, Titus, the main character, not fully understanding the situation, does everything you aren’t supposed to do to be there for someone. We feel less connected and show less sympathy. Titus showcased this problem when he,”...had deleted all her memories”(254). Titus deleted Violet’s memories because they were taking up too much space. What’s worse is that Titus knew that Violet was losing her memories but that didn’t affect his decision. In the end, he felt regret after seeing Violet’s state but it was far too late to change anything. Another scene in the story was when they rejected Violet’s offer to help her in this state. On pg. 247 of Feed,” Unfortunately, FeedTech and other investors reviewed your purchasing history, and we don’t feel that you would be a reliable investment at this time,” they even end by saying,”I’m afraid you’ll just have to work with your feed the way it is,”(247). It’s kind of like saying, I saw this customer window shopping but not buying our products so I have the right to refuse her any more service. The corporation felt no sympathy when it was their invention in the first place. In this generation, companies will offer some compensation if their products have some defects. Some people will even go as far as to fundraise some money to help the girl as she is sick. They simply say no stating that she wouldn’t benefit them in the future. This statement is definitely not true because future generations of Violet would also buy the feed causing them a profit.
