Mary is on Instagram with over 1,462 followers posting in bed. Almost everybody is on their phones for hours each week on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat; interacting with a phone instead of actual people. Social media such as Facebook and Instagram are bases to compare unrealistic and fake lives that has created an age of unsocial interaction. Teens and adults alike are glued to their phones. Like Mary, who just posted a picture on Instagram at the beach laughing. People see this and compare their lives to Mary’s, wishing their life was perfect like hers. Yet in reality Mary is actually at a point in her life where everything is falling apart. Yet, we don’t realize that everybody has struggles in life and as a result we see fake and unrealistic lives covered up through these social media platforms posts. So when society sees Mary’s “perfect world” many become depressed comparing their lives to hers. In Fahrenheit 451 we can also see Mildred herself wanting to commit suicide, sorry spoiler alert!
