Does social media affect everyone? Are school boards, putting children at risk? Does social media conflict with confidentiality? Even though almost every teenager has a cell phone nowadays, 20 years ago no one had cell phones. Social Networking was not a problem until now. Although Social Networking in schools may be enjoyable for some students, it is painful to others in ways of harassment, online predators, and cyberbullying. Social Networking in schools is a bad idea because of sexual predators who can target anyone that is online. If just one child clicks the wrong thing he/she could be looking at something they aren’t supposed to. It is more likely for a person who is “new” on any social media site to be stalked by an unknown person. 95% of 12 to 17 year olds are on social media with a tablet, computer, or a smartphone. 1 in 5 teenagers who use social media regularly say they have been approached on a social site with something sexual. Or someone they don’t know tries to follow them. Only 25% of these teenagers tell a parent. In 2015 there were 799,041 registered sex offenders on social media. 16% of teenagers consider meeting someone they have only talked to online. 8% of those kids actually meet them. 75% of teenagers have put their personal information online. Even if you can make your account private, a sex offender can hack your account or screenshot a picture of you and use it as their profile picture. This suggests that more people are at risk if they are between the ages 11 through 15 or their account is not private
