In the book the Feed, the author M.T. Anderson explores a world of technology innovations that demonstrate a perfect model of science fiction. Science fiction is fiction that is based on envisioned future technology advances and environmental changes that affect the world largely. In this society people would rather go out of their way to avoid human interaction, text than call, or surf the web rather than engaging in a conversation. In this story Anderson goes over the top by starting with 70% of Americans joined together with internet chips implanted into their brains called feeds. This novel is very futuristic. The feed itself is a great example of science fiction because it is like computers we carry around but instead they are implanted into the brain. Some connections that I made with our society was in the filet mignon farm scene, it reminded me of genetically modified organisms because scientist are now learning how to change things such as cattle increase more yield by modifying them. Up cars are very futuristic it is like flying cars that manufacturers are working to create. Traveling to different planets is also in this book, going to the moon has been achieved but many are working to make it livable. Also, many of the children were also genetically engineered by their parents to be the way they dream of heir kid being which is already available. Today which is a plugged-in society, people are continuing to communicate online. If one is absorbed by technology, they are absent from the world they live in. In Feed most of communication is done on the feed to the extent that it has taken over all aspects of communication.
Feed is a perfect name for this novel because the title suggests that the internet is feeding the brain nonsense and engages us in. The feeds are removing vital aspects of humans. many corporations are feeding off people by making a seller profile, making them easier to sell to. Other titles for the novel could be hunger because many of the characters crave the feed they watch videos, stay up with the styles, listen to the daily news, and buy the latest products.
"Before that, computers were all outside the body. They carried them around outside of them, in their hands, like if you carried your lungs in a briefcase and opened it to breathe" (47).
