Pantea Afzali Becky Hatfield CHEE 4321 9/30/15 Homework 2: Istanbul Fireworks Explosion On January 31, 2008, there was an explosion in a five-story building in the Davutpasa district, an industrial neighborhood of Istanbul, Turkey. The initial reports issued from government officials believed there was an initial blast from fireworks or explosives associated with an unlicensed fireworks factory in the building that started a fire [1, 2, 3, 4]. The fire then caused a second explosion which partially collapsed the building and killed many onlookers. The explosions and subsequent collapse killed 22 people and injured more than 100 people.
