Memory; the faculty by which the brain stores important information. We use our memory in many different ways. Before technology existed, people relied on their memory to remember everything. However as technology developed and became more advanced, it brought ease on us because now, instead of remembering everything, we have multiple resources to assist us in this. When trying to remember important information for a test or trying to remember a poem that you have to recite by memory, the classic method used is repetition. This method is time consuming and has proven to be ineffective, but there are many more ways to remember things as explained in Joshua Foer’s Ted X Talk “Feats of memory anyone can do”. There is a lot we try to remember in our daily life whether we are trying to remember the name of someone we’ve recently met or trying to remember important names and dates for a big exam. Learning requires a lot of memory use. We use it to remember a method of solving a problem in math, important times and people in history, definitions for new vocabulary, and many more things. By using memory principles such as the memory palace technique I can study certain things that require memorizing more effectively than before. In my opinion, it is easier for me to remember details from a story I read because as I read, I visualize all that is taking place in the passage. On the other hand, for me, remembering definitions, dates, and the names of important figures is harder, because when reading things such as a definition for new vocabulary, I don’t visualize anything which, in turn, makes it difficult for me to answer when someone asks me questions such as, “who was the second governor of Texas?” or , “What does the word ‘acrimonious’ mean?” unless I have sat down and drilled it into my
