In “My Life had stood - a Loaded Gun”, Emily Dickinson says that her life (and the life of other women in general) can be compared to a loaded gun. Emily Dickinson expresses through the poem that women have a great potential and power, but are unable to exploit it without a man guiding them. Emily Dickinson says that without a man, women will not be able to accomplish anything and have no real purpose in life. Women have the capacity to exploit their potential without necessarily having someone by their side, and are more than just a ‘’loaded gun’’, as opposed to Emily Dickinson’s point of view. Emily Dickinson said that women (including her) were like “a loaded gun’’ when referring to their power and capability, implying that they can be
