Personal Essay - Public Shootings Recently, there have been many tragedies in the world, such as shootings, bombings, and terrorist attacks. We all are affected differently by them, some more than others, but these events affect the way we live and how we act. The recent public shootings have affected my life and changed how I live it. The Sandy Hook Elementary and the Aurora movie theater shootings were a result of guns in the hands of the wrong people, and because of this, my life is different than my parents’ lives were when they were kids. Our world has become dangerous and I don’t feel safe anymore. For example, hearing about the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting made me feel scared and nervous. What happened was a gunman had gone into the elementary school and killed many kids. He shot twenty 6 and 7 year old kids and six staff members. …show more content…

Now, wherever I go, I have to be careful and always have a trusted adult with me. You can never know when someone is going to do something crazy or where it’ll be. Once in awhile, my school has surprise lockdown drills. These practices prepare me in case someone comes onto my school campus and has a gun. Also, to prevent this even more, my school has a gate around it and if you want to come on the campus, you must be buzzed in by a school administrator. This method allows the school to know and control who’s coming in and what they are doing. In conclusion, the shootings were a result of gun control issues, and because of this, my life is different than my parents’ lives were when they were kids. They were tragic events that impacted many and affected all of our lives. Even though these horrible events happen and many people are outraged about them, nothing seems to change. I fear that more problems will progress as I grow up and there is only little hope that they will
