On February 14th 2018 there was a tragic school shooting at Stoneman Douglas high school. The shooter was 19 year old Nikolas Cruz a former student of Stoneman Douglas. He was a trouble kid who had been expelled and had a temper everyone in the school knew it. Cruz had made comments on a video that he was going to be a professional school shooter. However there have been 18 school shootings this year but all of those weren’t on purpose like a guard accidently shot his gun. So the media really talks up a lot of small incidents that shouldn’t count as school shootings. However what happened was Cruz had ambitions to shoot up the school. On February 14th he finally did it he made his way to the school by an Uber. Cruz went in the schools 12s east …show more content…

However I think this school shooting in particular was preventable. First off the police department was told about Cruz and there suspiciousness about him. In fact the police had gotten complaints about him or his brother 23 times. They were usually resolved over the phone or in person. However the calls are being reviewed by the police department. There was also a police officer on the campus of the school. He took a position on the west side of building 12. He however held his position for 4 minutes knowingly that there was a shooter in the school. He was suspended by the sheriff but instead he resigned and retired. He could have gone in and addressed the shooter and killed the killer this is why this school shooting could have been less critical or even preventable. The major issue with this shooting and others was that he got in the school without anyone knowing and he shouldn’t have able to get into the school that easily either. The Florida school was also a gun free zone which made it easy to bring a gun into and not have to worry about you getting bullets in return. There is really no fear when you walk into a school so it an easy place to walk into and shoot …show more content…

I think that one way to prevent school shootings is to train teachers and administrators maybe not to just able to shoot and carry a gun but to able to react right in these types of situations. However preventing is not the same thing as preparing. Because we can arm teachers and everything but if someone comes into the building with a gun and shoots it’s going to be labeled as a school shooting. So this means we may have been prepared but it wasn’t prevented. To prevent a school shooting we are going to do something outside the school. I believe putting guns in the schools and making schools none gun free zones will help strike fear in shooters. However I think that we need to have one entrance in a school and that this is the only way to get in and out unless a emergency. I also believe at this entrance there should be at least 2 security guards and that they are armed and highly trained with this weapon and in a situation such as a school shooting. These security guards should be at the entrance at all times unless an emergency and that they should have metal detectors. These security guards would strike fear into future shooters and they could also check bags with their metal detectors as everyone comes in. I believe that bags should be school issued so the schools could give everyone the same bag but it would be small enough to not able to carry a rifle in it. These bags would also be clear in color so
