He had a mother named Florence Augusta Lewis, a father named Albert James Lewis, a brother named Warren Hamilton Lewis, and of course Clive Staples Lewis himself or better known as C.S Lewis. C.S Lewis begins “The Abolition of Man” speaking of Gaius and Titius’ “Green Book”. The “Green Book” serves as a visualization for a world without the Tao, allowing Lewis to set up his argument for the necessity thereof. The Tao represents a stable platform for which morals and ethics stand upon. This is fitting considering Lewis went on an adventurous two year expedition to the Pacific Ocean. Meriwether Lewis is associated with the American Romanticism era. The Romanticism era began in the early 1800s and continued until approximately 1865. This era valued unspoiled nature, relied on intuition over logic, and believed in the importance of individual freedom and liberty.
The death of Meriwether Lewis Meriwether Lewis the governor of the Louisiana Territory was found dead the morning of October 11, 1809. He discovered with 2 bullet wounds to his head and stomach which was the cause of death. Lewis committed suicide that fateful morning and has forever been remembered as a great explorer. He had an unstable mind, a drinking problem, depression, and malaria. All of things drove Lewis into the crazed condition in which he committed suicide.

As Christians, we are instructed to stand apart from this dark and ominous world, to be a light in the darkness. Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, acceptable, and perfect will of God.” The question then becomes, is averting evil enough to generate a virtuous person or must it be an active choice?

I liked a lot of things in this book and chapter such as how Lewis explains the two types of Faith and how each relates to God. Book Three covers morality and the seven virtues of Christianity. Lewis’s explanation of each of these virtues is in depth and lends a certain amount of clarity to the Christian who is striving to understand Christianity’s role in modern society. Lewis’s explanation of morality is that it consists of three parts; 1) social relations, 2) inward morality and 3) the direction or goal.

For instance, philosopher David Lewis believes that the structure of a conversation is based on a “conversational scoreboard” and the scoreboard contains several different features that add or subtract to a conversation.
