The first article being examined for this investigation is “Renaissance or Prennaisance” written by Lynn Thorndike, published in the Journal of the History of Ideas in 1943. Thorndike was an American Historian, he studied at Wesleyan, and Columbia universities, getting his doctorate in medieval history in 1905. Thorndike taught for many years at Northwestern and Columbia universities before he retired in 1950, but he continued to write academic articles, most famous of which is the one about to be examined. One value of this article is that it provides a view on the Renaissance that is much different from the common idea of the Renaissance, Lynn provides a unique point of view towards the Renaissance that had never before been thought of.
