Most people think that coming to the U.S is easy but it really it not. Enrique Journey By Sonia Nazario teaches the audience that the journey to the U.S is difficult for migrants. Enrique journey towards the U.S made him the man he is today, and Lourdes’ challenges in the new transition she had coming to the U.S reveals to us that coming to the U.S was a big challenge. Enrique journey, which lead to dangerous situations. When Enrique gets stopped by a gang, he cowers in fear. Nazario writes, “Mara Salvatrucha street gangsters always prowl the train tops in Chiapas.” Just to get to the border, Enrique has to get on the train, which is surrounded by gang activity. Since there are gang members, then Enrique could get robbed or killed. Additionally Enriques makes a friend who’s also had the same story but his didn’t end so well. Nazario writes, “he slides up a leg of his black jeans and takes off a high topped black sneaker, then a prosthesis” (130). This illustrates us how the Journey that some teenagers also like Enrique took didn’t end so well. When Lourdes returns home from work she always gets threaten by gangmebers. Nazario writes, “Lourdes returns home in the middle of the night, gangsters come up to her and ask for money” (28). This quotes shows that U.S wasn’t as how Lourdes expected it to be like. Additionally, Enrique mother takes a job in the U.S that she’s ashamed of. Nazario says, “Lourdes sits in the darkest corner of the bar and begins to cry.” (30).
