In the late 1950s until the early 1960s, “The Bell Jar “is the first and only novel written by the American poet and writer Sylvia Plath. Since the author was concerned about the relationship and closeness of her life into the novel, as it contains many references to real people and events in her life, she told her British publisher, William Heinemann, to publish it under the pseudonym "Victoria Lucas" in January 1963. In 1966, the novel appeared under her own name after she died when she committed suicide. Moreover, the novel was not published until 1971 in America with accordance in the objections and wishes of both of the author 's husband and mother for it might degrade their reputation. With its high demand in other countries, 14 of them translated it in their own language; Greek and Spanish translation were some of them. The novel itself has sold over 3 million copies worldwide and is a pillar of American high school classes back then.
