Gridlock by Steve Francks pg 16, He believes that it is a must to have government involved in housing because only the government can provide building permits. He also believes that the government officers decisions about these building permits drive up housing prices. He believes this because the building cost remained flat however the land prices raised under direct government supervision.
Housing redux by Professor Bratt pg 17, This article talks about the highs and lows of the housing market and how it has contributed to the victories and down falls of housing bills/policies. President Roosevelt had a huge impact on housing during his presidency, however 55 years later we have not reach his goal in the right to house every family. During those 55 years we had success stories and failures in making this dream come true. Some of these success stories about housing comes from the efforts and funding of nonprofits. However the government still lacks a large part in making this goal come true. This is ever evident in the federal government bill to cities ( $143 billion) to spend on upgrades however, affordable housing is always left with only a small sum of this amount. The right to housing first needs to be noted and taken serious by federal, state, and local government. This because the right of housing is a huge undertaking that only the full cooperation of the government can help achieve. Sadly, the Congress have never followed up with rights program and added resources in achieving this goal. They also fail to make any declaration of of human rights as a housing right. The government plays a large part in Hartman strategies in create this right on every level. The government provides the codes and standards that are important for these steps to succeed.
