There should be some kind of incentive program for providers to encourage them to open a practice in a rural area. I am glad thing have worked out for you and your son is getting better. Have you ever thought about using your voice to your area political representative? I say this because you lived not having adequate providers for years for your son and I think you can shed some awareness on a need for more
The doctors of Saskatchewan wanted the freedom to practice medicine under his or her own terms. Though the government was perceived to have won the strike in 1962, the doctors were able force major compromises from the government. The dispute was resolved by British physician Stephen Taylor, who played a pivotal role in introducing Britain’s national health plan (Baltzan, 2002). Through his mediation efforts, Lord Stephen Taylor was able to negotiate terms and preserve a fee-for-service model for primary and specialized care as opposed to a salaried-employment model. This meant the doctors were able to bill their patients if they chose to do so and they could also charge more than what would be reimbursed to the patients under the provincial plan (“Health Policy - The Canadian Encyclopedia,” 2006).
This option of making the healthcare sector private in Canada should be encouraged as it is only through doing so that patients have the power to choose a doctor or even move to the extent of asking for another one if he or she is not satisfied with the services which are provided by the former one. These services can only be available if the sector is privatized and it leads to quality work from the professionals hence the government of Canada should move on and make sure that it privatizes this sector without fail as it will lead to specialization and excellent
The main cause of this is the disparity between federal and private sector salaries. In an effort to remedy this situation, due to the number of enrollees who reside in rural or highly rural communities, the VA offers recruitment and retention bonuses along with student loan repayment in order to entice physicians to work in rural areas. This is why the VHA has attempted to make rural outreach a priority, by creating the Office of Rural Health to address the concerns and needs of rural veterans. The biggest of these concerns involved lack of access to healthcare because of transportation difficulties that include travel distances, lack of transportation, or the inability to drive, these issues affect 33% of rural residents (Buzza, et. al.).
Growing up in a small, rural community the majority of the population was uninsured and underserved. Access to primary healthcare was limited with most physicians’ offices being close to an hour drive one way. I grew up seeing both of my parents work two jobs and still having to make the decision to put their health on the back burner due to lack of finances or insufficient insurance coverage. This often led to numerous emergency department visits because of the lack of access to a primary care physician who could have provided preventative care. This was not only an issue within my home but throughout the town.
Also, the solutions to deal with these problems will be provided so that this public health problem will be resolved in the future. Paragraph 1: The injustice of health care distribution appears at the following point. First of all, the problem is uneven distribution of health resources in urban and rural areas. Nationally, 80% medical resources are concentrated in cities, only 20% in the countryside, which means 80% of the rural population has only 20% of health resources.
