The Black Sox Scandal was a Major League Baseball incident in which eight members of the Chicago White Sox were accused of intentionally losing the 1919 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for money from gamblers. Before the Series they approached the wealthy New York gambler Arnold Rothstein to provide the money for the players, who were promised a total of $100,000.Arnold Rothstein, the one that organized the financing the fix, was never even charged with a crime. He would maintain his innocence for the rest of his life, despite rumors that he made a fortune betting on the series. In September 1920, a grand jury was convened to investigate.
