American colonial literature is a reflection of the values, political belifs, and culture of that period, with a great focus on religious identity it often showed up in laws, social standards and literacy. Writers during this period had an immense desperation to create a uniqely American identity in the face of British colonialism and were considerably fascinated by the natural world. One of the most impotant pieces of literature during the colonial period that really stood out to me was “ The burning of our house” by Anne Bradstreet, which was a poem written by Anne on July 10th of 1666 after her familys home burned down in a fire. Anne Bradstreet in this poem is a great example of how religious culture was, beacuse of the very visble religious themes her poem focused on.
