Why is taking off work to give birth a shame in the work place? It is those every babies that will become the future of America. Taking work leave should not be frown upon, it should be applauded. Senator Kristen Gillibrand, in her editorial explains why the US should adopt the Family and Medical Insurance Leave Act (FAMILY Act). First, Gillibrand incorporates progressive diction so the act comes across as a positive change. Second, Gillibrand integrates specific details to emphasize how the act is a necessity. A major reason women take leave in the work place. Gillibrand begins her editorial by explaining that President Clinton signed into law the Family and Medical Leave Act, similar to her FAMILY Act. The FMLA was passed with "bipartisan" support. By choosing to use progressive diction, Gillibrand express how the act was approved in unanimity. Not one but both sides of the house supported the act, establishing an encouraging tone. If the FMLA could get bipartisan support, then why wouldn't the FAMILY Act get it as well? The difference between Gillibrand's FAMILY Act and the FMLA is that her act has more of an "opportunity" to "empower" working women. Gillibrand integrated this enthusiastic diction to explain how the FAMLY Act is a positive, needed act. This act will not hurt the economy. This act will not hurt the nation's debt. This act will only better the work force for mothers in America, establishing a motivated tone. Of all names to call her act, Gillibrand chooses to label the act, the "FAMILY" Act.
