They are heroes of greatness A hero is someone who is kind, generous, helps others, and watches over people who are in need of help. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton.

Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally are all heroes because they help, save, protect, and care for one another. Pony is a hero because he helped the kids get out of the burning church. Ponyboy went into to the church with Johnny right behind him to save the kids.” I’ll get them don’t worry!” I started at a dead run until the man grabbed my arm. “I’ll get them you kids stay out!” I jerked lose and made a run for the church.(pg. 91) If Ponyboy was not there to go get the kids that were trapped the kids would have been burned alive. Ponyboy does not really care what others think of him. PonyBoy is helpful and watches over his brothers because he really cares for them and does not want them to get into trouble.

Dally helped Ponyboy out by knocking the fire off of him so he does not get burned. He saved Johnny from the burning church. But it was not enough to make it out alive. Dally always wanted to protect Johnny and Pony so he made sure that no one laid a finger on them.When they ran off. Dally loved Johnny more than anything in the world. Johnny was the only one he cared for and whoever messed with him that person is messing with Dally. Johnny and PonyBoy were in a lot of trouble when Johnny killed that Soc so Dally was kind enough to give them some supplies.
