The Kardashian-Jenner sisters are considered to be the trendsetters among millennials. The lavish lifestyle of the sisters is seen through every media platform; you can’t go a day without seeing a headline about them. Collectively, they each have some type of beauty product or clothing brand that makes them millions of dollars each year. The media glamorizes the sisters as the “it” girls that set trends that people should follow. The Kardashian-Jenner sisters are perpetrators of culture appropriation because they glamorize cultural hairstyles that are not their own. The Kardashian – Jenner sisters can wear their hair in braids or Bantu Knots if they want too. The problem is that they are not willing to give credit to women of color who have worn these hairstyles for centuries. They have to take the responsibility to not allow the media to glamorize that they created a trend that isn’t new. The Kardashian – Jenner sisters can’t control what the media writes about them or how they write it, but they can be an influence. When they create content for their mobile apps, they are based off the hairstyles they wear. It would be a great idea to have their hairstylist have an intro on the hairstyle history and show images of women who have worn them before. If the Kardashian – Jenner sisters aren’t willing to be more receptive to what cultural appropriation and why they should be more mindful of the feelings of their followers. African American women are very important stakeholders in the Kardashian- Jenner brand. These women purchase products from their various brand. If the Kardashian - Jenner sisters don’t take into consideration the feelings of their supporters, they can lose them as fans and customers. The media’s responsibility as a stakeholder is to also be aware of what cultural appropriation is and not glamorize the Kardashian – Jenner sister when they are wrong.
