In the beginning of the book, The Outsiders, we meet PonyBoy Curtis and his two brothers; Soda-Pop and Darry. The boys are in a type of place where their tier is referred to as “greasers”, and they live in a gang because their parents died in a car accident when they were younger. The greasers are the poor boys on the east side of town. Their rivals are the Socials, also referred to as “Socs”. The book begins with PonyBoy getting out of a movie and he proceeds to run into some Socs. He then gets beaten up and gets a switchblade put to his throat. The Soc group beats him up and threatens his life but some of his gang save him. The next day PonyBoy and Johnny go to the drive in movies with Dally. When the boys arrive at the movie, they spot two girls and decide to sit right behind them. While at the movie, Dally intimidates two girls sitting in front of the boys. Dally makes them very mad on purpose and then Johnny steps in and tells Dally to stop (which is very unusual considering Johnny praises Dally). The two girls then think that the boys are strong and will protect them so, they invite Johnny and PonyBoy to sit with them and they do. The boys are walking with Dally and the girls when they encounter the girls boyfriends; Socials. The girls part ways with Dally and the group. Pony and Johnny sit in the parking lot and doze off. When Pony wakes up he runs hoe fast because it’s past his curfew. When he arrives Darry is waiting for him and gets very upset. In the heat of the
