“The Scarlet Ibis” is a story about two little boys, the narrator also known as brother and William Armstrong also known as Doodle. The older brother was not very kind to Doodle. These are some of the reasons why. The narrator has this little brother who can’t walk or crawl. When Doodle is old enough to go to school, the narrator teaches how to swim, run and do other things. But the narrator didn’t do this because he cared, he did this because he didn’t want to get picked on by his classmates. The older child only did it for himself. Another reason why is that the narrator had taken Doodle up to his coffin and made him touch it, and if he didn’t touch the coffin, Doodle’s brother would have left him there. That’s really sad but Doodle didn’t have a way to get down considering he couldn’t walk. Another reason why is that The narrator left Doodle when he really needed him, and Doodle had died. His mother weeped, making it more dramatic than it should have been. Of course the narrator had wanted a brother who can run and play with him, which causes the narrator to teach Doodle to walk, run, and play. “I began to make plans to kill him by smothering him with a pillow.” (595) The narrator was going to kill him. How is that not showing that he is an bad brother to Doodle? He shouldn't have cared that his brother was disable. What he should be doing is helping his mother and not plotting evil things, like killing his brother. This is one reason why the narrator is a horrid
