As they wait the ship wrecks and sinks, they get on a piece of wood for safety. They survive the shipwreck but are stranded in an ocean realm and surrounded by ravenous sharks. Not only are they struggling to survive, but a crazed survivor tries to kill them. Not long after, Patrick is nearly killed by a shark when a ship arrives and saves them.

As you walk and grab some potato chips, the cashier yells “Hey put that back!” You wonder to yourself, “am I allowed to buy this or does he not want me to?” You go up to the counter and before he explains what happened, and why he yells, he tells you to put your hands up and don't go anywhere. You sit there for a while looking like you're reaching for something on a top shelf, a man with a uniform and badge comes walking in through the front door.

Man Taken By Shark Yesterday in the early morning at around 4am a young pearl diver at the age of 30, was attacked by a Tiger shark. He was out in Roebuck Bay on the coast of Kimberly when this incident happened. The pearling crew confirmed that the victim of the attack was Samuel Jackson, and that they had been unaware of his attack when it happened because he was so far away. The crew of the lugger pulled in his air hose to find no one at the end.

The novel and film Jaws both focus on the story set forth by a rogue shark disturbing the peace of Amity Island. Peter Benchley, author of the novel, describes the great fish as a self preserver who obeys its own instincts to survive. The protagonist introduced in both contexts, Chief Martin Brody, is faced to save the island from the “malevolent” shark. Outside of the external conflict of nature that Chief Brody has to face, he struggles to overturn the efforts of the mayor and islanders to keep the beach open. Through the direct and indirect characterization of Brody it is clear that Jaws is more than a story about a shark eating monster terrorizing a peaceful island.
The shark represents man vs nature throughout the whole story up until the end. From the very beginning of both the film and novel, it starts off looking through the shark’s perspective. The novel’s intro gives some exposition about sharks, including one important definition about anoxia: “Once, if ever, it stopped, it would sink to the bottom of the ocean and die of anoxia” (Benchley 3). This definition not only acts as exposition, but also foreshadows how the shark eventually dies in the end of the novel. After the expository phase of both the movie and novel, the shark attacks its first victim--a drunk woman named Crissy.
