In the New York Time published by Dana Gionia, " Why literature Matter", show the author building her argument to support her claim to persuade the audiences. The author uses lots of supports off of statistic reports from a well-known organization, survey, and people. First, she talks about how Americans are slowly declining in American literature, and her support came from a survey called "2002 survey of public participation in the arts". She saw a rapid decline of "reading at risk". Next, she made a claim about how reading literature is falling into a dark age. Her next claim is telling the audience how ironically the value of reading in which shows a growing awareness made in 2001, by the National Association Of Manufacturer had made a poll on it members on skills deficiencies among employees. She uses very good evidence to explain why Americans are poor in reading skills and its decline. She used powerful words in explaining her claim towards the audiences, and use good imagery to capture the picture for the audiences to see from the first paragraph. She also uses actual quotes from a person who knows a knowledge of art in literature. Sometimes she uses certain words to insert into her sentence to get the audience hook on to it. In the second half of the essay, the author adds more support to the claim she trying to tell the audiences about it. She adds another problem that she said was is a piece of evidence she provides is from the study in 2003 of 15-26 year old's civil knowledge by the "NCOSL" to concluded, " young people do not understand the ideas of citizenship... and their appreciation and support of American democracy is limited".
