In “How to Handle a Bully,” by Kathiann Kowalski, an experienced journalist, Kowalski reports the different strategies to stop bullying. She informs that bullying is at its peak in the late teenage years, but can start in an early age. Kowalski concurs that girls intimidates as much as boys; however, they do it differently. She explores many reasons why bullying occurs at the first place, and who starts bullying. Kowalski exemplifies the situations that victims could be in, and the solution on how to handle the bully.
Argument Analysis Overusing the Bully Label by Susan Eva Porter is an argumentative essay that discusses the opposing viewpoints concerning bullying and perception. The main idea of this argument is to determine if the name “bully” is given to kids by adults for the wrong reasons. By relating ethos, logos, and pathos to the research and claims of the author, a complete analysis will determine if the argument she has presented would appeal to the reader and sway them to one view. The first main claim presented shows how adults can act irrationally to their view of bullying.
Around the world there are many kind of problems that afflict kids of all age but there is one in particular that is relevant, this problem is the bullying. They tend to avoid the particular word “bullying” and instead use the term “aggression” in kids. Thus, when studying bullying in a sociological approach, no specific definition is used, unlike in the psychology approach. Sociologists look through this lens they call the sociological imagination. By doing so, they are able to examine what influences behaviour, attitudes, and culture and it helps individuals understand their own and others' lives in relation to history and social structure (Mills, 2000). The sociological lens helps sociologists look at bullying as it gives us information about why people bully or why people get bullied.
This fact is quite shocking, especially if we bear in mind that bullies are mainly the victim’s classmates or someone at their school or neighborhood. For this purpose only, Wisconsin Town has decided to take matters into their own hands and put a large fine on the parents whose children are bullying or participants in the verbal, cyber or physical bullying. The fine starts at $366 for first offence and gets to $681 for a second offence within the same year. By incorporating this law, Wisconsin Town is hoping to lower the death of children victims of bullying as well as raise awareness in parents. Bullying is an undesirable, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves actual disparity of power. According to Megan Brooks bullying is a serious public health problems, with significant short-and long-term psychological consequences for the child who is bullied and the child who is the bully. Bullying has been named an “emerging public health issue requiring intervention” (Ansary, Elias, Greene, & Green, 2015, p. 27). As a major problem in schools around the world, the issue of bullying must be addressed in order to keep students physically and emotionally safe. The act of bullying not only affects the well-being of the person being targeted, but it also affects the rest of the school community too. It can be difficult for teachers, principals, and superintendents to make an ethical decision about what to do when bullying occurs because there are misunderstandings about what bullying is, leading to the improper identification of situations.
