Should Kids be Allowed to Participate in Competitive Sports?
An issue that is hotly debated is whether or not kids should be allowed to participate in competitive sports. I think Kids should not participate in competitive sports because of the unhealthy effects of competitive sports, specifically the parents and coaches that constantly put pressure on their kids which causes many unwanted problems for their children. One reason why kids should not play competitive sports is because of the many unhealthy effects that kids can acquire from competitive sports. For example, kids can obtain the unhealthy effects of feeling overwhelmed, emotional problems, lifetime injuries, and worst of all, kids may turn towards performance enhancing drugs to …show more content…

This is a huge reason why kids quit sports and are no longer interested in them. For example, some kids who play sports want to play the sport to make friends and have fun not to tire themselves out. The article “Pushing too Hard too Young” states “When Faigenbaum asks kids who've quit why they're no longer interested in sports, their typical response: "It's not fun anymore." They wanted to have a good time, make friends and learn something new, he says. But make the game all about hard-core training and the final score, and many kids will sideline themselves.” This is important to notice because this shows that some of the kids who chose to participate in sports want to do it to have a good time and make friends, not wanting the glory of winning Also, some kids who play sports have other things they aspire to do and don’t want to be forced to have a goal in sports. The article “Pushing too hard too young ” states “Parents who live vicariously through their children can be problematic, experts say. It's one thing for kids to dream of Olympic gold medals or Super Bowl rings and to work toward those goals. But it's another matter if parents are pushing their kids to do something they don't want or pressuring them to succeed in a way that’s
