Reading is one of the best ways to develop an understanding of our surroundings, reading fiction is a great way to understand what to do in certain situations and it improves our creativity. Reading fiction takes us on adventures to different places and helps us see life through the perspective of different people. We read fiction because it puts us into a deep state of concentration and it connects us with the characters by vividly describing their emotions. It also helps us gain completely new experiences. It helps us connect to the character with the help of the description that creates a relationship between the reader and the character. When Rudy died we could feel Liesel's pain, we could feel how important he was to her. The day Liesel found Rudy dead she could never forget,“In disbelief, Liesel buried her head into Rudy’s chest. She held his limp body, trying to keep him from lolling back, until she needed to return him to the butchered ground,” (Zusak, 143). This explains to us how we connect with the characters, when Liesel found Rudy dead the readers cried because losing your best friend is a sight that no one could forget. In the book thief Liesel and her neighbors are hiding from a bomb and when there is chaos she starts to read The Whistler and everyone immediately shuts up and then fade away into the book. When Liesel read to the people in the basement everyone forgot about the bombs ,“Everyone waited for the ground to shake… That was still an immutable fact, but at least they were distracted now, by the girl with the book.,” (Zusak,43). When Liesel read to the people in the basement it calmed them down, reading fiction puts us in another world and it is important to be able to get away from our worries and just relax. It is important that we let go of our worries sometimes and calm our nerves and our minds.
