Analyzing Chai Jing's Speech 'Under The Dome'

In Chai Jing’s speech, “Under the Dome”, Jing talks about the air pollution problem in China. Smog has been a long term problem in China, and it is not just not an simple environmental problem of not having a blue sky; however, it is a severe health problem that affect millions of life. Before I watched Jing’s speech “Under the Dome”, I did not know smog is a dangerous air pollution problem that has a huge impaction on human health. Jing’s speech clearly convinces my thought and redirects me to reconsider the air pollution problem. According to Jing’s speech “Under the Dome”, she mentions North Eastern part of China is severely affected by smog, and the people live in cities scatter across the North Eastern region have much higher risk of getting respiration diseases than the health safety standard. Jing uses her own baby’s example to illustrate how she and most of the Chinese parents are worry about their children of getting respiration disease. Jing mentions young children are more easily affected by smog, so she wants to her child to stay at home most of the time because she does not want her child to play outside. Jing says, “children breathe more when they exercise, and she is worry that her child breath in more dirty air”. I had a personal experience of traveling in Beijing last year. When I was waiting for my cousin in his school, I saw a group of student were running on playground, but all students wore a mask. I was curious, so I asked one of the students why they wore a mask, and he answered me that he did not want to breathe in too many bad air.
