Olivia Rodrigo’s 2021’s Sour album’s pop song, Déjà Vu, closely relates to the theme, love and hate. It is mainly targeted towards teenagers and people going through a heartbreak. Olivia mainly writes songs about heartbreak in her album Sour which explains why she wrote one of her classics, Déjà Vu. ‘Déjà Vu’, literally means ‘feeling like living through something once again’, is very similar to the lyrics of the song about her being heartbroken and about the guy she loved but now hates.

The first verse starts off the song by giving a hint of what it’s about, with Olivia saying, “Car rides to Malibu, strawberry ice cream one spoon for two and trading jackets, laughing 'bout how small it looks on you. Watching reruns of Glee, being annoying, singing in harmony”. These lyrics clearly identify that she’s remembering the past and all the good times as they are written in past tense. (The love part of the theme). Next, she says, “I bet she's bragging to all her friends, saying you're so unique, hmm”. In these few lyrics, she’s slowly starting to get to the point and suggesting that something is wrong. (Shifting towards the hate part of the theme). The last verse sums up the first verse but with more of a deeper tone and deeper words. The lyrics are, “Strawberry ice cream in Malibu. Don't act like we didn't do that shit, too. You're trading jackets like we used to do. (Yeah, everything is all reused). Play her piano, but she doesn't know (oh, oh). That I was the one who taught you Billy Joel (oh). A different girl now, but there's nothing new. (I know you get déjà vu)”. Comparing the first verse to the last, Olivia has added a bit of every verse and the chorus into the last one to summarise the whole song to end it
