Ancient Education Affects

In ancient times, education was unheard of. Then, as time progressed, it became a privilege, and now it is a given. Early education shaped us, made us who we currently are, and it is the single most important aspect of history. I believe that in Africa, Europe, and Asia education was a really big contributor to their advanced civilizations. The Neolithic Revolution is also often called the Agricultural Revolution. Scientists still don't know why the Neolithic Revolution occurred when it did, but it is speculated that it's because of climate change during the time period. Another discovery during the Neolithic Revolution was the domestication of animals. They domesticated horses, dogs, goats, and pigs. They did this so they could have a readily available source of meat for food. Once they were educated on the advantages of farming and domesticating animals, their lives were changed forever. It helped them survive and live better. In another part of Africa during the Egyptian Old Kingdom, the Egyptians were forming a writing system. Originally they were just pictographs, but early scribes quickly developed them into the writing system we know today as hieroglyphics. The word hieroglyphics comes from the Greek words hieros and gluph which means sacred carving. In the earliest forms of hieroglyphics, each picture represented an idea. As time passed, they created a sort of alphabet where certain pictures represented sounds. During the Dorian rule, Greek culture declined and ushered in a dark age in Greece. The dark age was caused by the Dorians lack of knowledge and illiteracy. This proves that life is better when you're educated even the slightest bit. In Athens, around 500 BC, Athenian boys began school around the age of seven. They studied grammar, history, mathematics, music, poetry, and reading. Their education shape them into good citizens. Females in Athens did not go to school. Instead, their mothers educated them at home in the skills of raising a child, managing a household, cooking and preparing meals, weaving cloth, and other skills which allowed them to become good wives and mothers. A quote from James A. Baldwin states "The paradox of education is precisely this - that as one begins to become conscious one begins to examine the society in which he is being educated." This is relatable to Sparta because they did not educate their people for fear they would revolt and form a non-warlike
