Ancient Greek government and military were very severe and triumphant. Many citizens in Ancient Greece participated in their government and military. They wanted to know what was going on in their civilization. Also, they wanted to be able to defeat their enemies. Ancient Greek government and military were very strong and successful.
Ancient Greek Government was not very strong, but became stronger over time. Ancient Greece was made up of city-states, which are cities or towns and the surrounding villages and farmland. Single rulers used to rule, such as kings. Then, oligarchies and tyrants seized power and ruled. All city-states had different governments eventually and had their own leaders, ran their own army, and had their own laws. In 508 BC the democracy was introduced by Athens. A democracy is a form of government in which citizens rule the city or country. Democracy was starting to spread around the Ancient Greek city-states. “Citizens of a city-state were strongly patriotic, and many citizens took part in public affairs”(Krentz). In Athens, the assembly of citizens made important decisions. Members of the assembly could make speeches and vote on the government policy. Members could also could vote to expel unpopular politicians. Every year, 500 citizens of Athens were chosen to be members of the city council. The city council ran the daily business of government, prepared bills that the assembly voted on, planned new laws and proposed new policies, then the assembly debated them. Greek politicians gave ordinary people a part in the government. Because many people in Ancient Greece participated in the democracies, their government grew stronger and more people were happier that they got to be included in how their government
