In 1609 he learns the existence of the spyglass, which inspired him to begin experimenting with telescope-making. The telescopes he made allowed him to see with a magnification of eight or nine times, which in comparison the spyglasses only provided a magnification of three. His version of the telescope led him to becoming the first man to see craters on the moon. He also discovered the four most massive moons of Jupiter, Io, Ganymede, Europa and Callisto. Now those moons are known as the Galilean moon, which were named after him. Galileo also may have made the first recorded studies of the planet Neptune, though he didn't think it was a planet. Galileo helped to support Copernicus’ theory. Copernicus theory was that the sun is the center of the universe and the planet revolve around also known as the heliocentric theory. His observations of Venus and the fact that Jupiter had moons that did not orbit Earth, helped support the theory. He ended up becoming a Italian physicist. mathematician , astronomer, and philosopher who played a major role in the Scientific
