And Then I Met Margaret Book Analysis

994 Words4 Pages

And Then I Met Margaret by Robert White was hands-down one of the worst books I’ve ever read, and I’ve read a lot of bad books. Rating this book 1 out of 4 stars is frankly being generous. From the first sentence to the last sentence, I struggled to find anything I could relate to, and I don’t know if anyone could really relate to him, and he’s a white man. Basically, this book is about a man who was poor from a small blue-collar town, then he went to college and had to work hard, then he became a teacher, then a real-estate person, then he started restaurants. The entire premise of the book, almost 200 pages, can be summarized like this: Each chapter has an opening page, of a “truth” he used to believe. I read Love Does, and I’m not even the target audience because I am an atheist young adult, and I think the book was geared more toward Christian young teens due to the large font and easy reading level. Despite this, I loved this book, even with the persistent talks about Jesus and finding Jesus, I could still find a lot of happiness and entertainment reading that book. Also, at the beginning of each chapter, Bob has a similar staging, where he lists what he used to believe and what he believes now, except in a less convoluted way. I just think if Bob were the type of person to sue another person, he could ABSOLUTELY sue Rob for his book, and Bob could because he’s a successful lawyer. I just think Rob and Bob’s books are so similar, except I actually enjoyed reading Bob’s, and Rob’s was actual trash. He tried to hard to be relatable, talking about how he taught poor inner-city kids and went to Africa and experienced different cultures. Also, can we talk about how Rob and Bob both go to Africa in their books? Like, really? Does Rob even exist, or is he a teenager in Ukraine trying to rip off Bob? The way Bob talks about Africans is not racist unlike Rob. I wish I could say something nice about the book, so I’m going to try: it made me remember how much I appreciate 1. Good writing, and 2. Bob Goff Love
