Centuries of Racism
Racism has been a major issue for centuries, and continuing to be an issue in today society. Even through the world has progressed a large amount over the last couple centuries, both socially and physically the racism, hatred towards one another and discrimination has continued to be cause controversy world wide. Racism is extremely embedded through different traditions, beliefs and values which results in ignorance and foolishness disgards. After reading the novel “The Man In The High Castle” by Philip K Dick I found similarities dealing with racism in the movie “Get Out” directed by Jordan Peele. This shows that the Armitage’s made him feel uncomfortable from the beginning. Which led him to knowing they were all up to something by their actions and by the questions that they asked him. This compares to the book because the way Robert Childan treats the Americans Americans and the Jews it has to make them feel very uncomfortable as well. I don’t think it really fair to be treated differently just because of the color of your skin. In my opinion racism shouldn’t even exist anymore but unfortunately some people have different belief and were raised differently. Another quote from the book was “The younger truck driver said, "Sure. If you have the right color skin." He himself had a dark brooding face with curly black hair. His expression had become set and bitter” (Dick 33). This quote reminds me of the scene when Chris first decided to go to with Rose to meet her parents for the weekend and Rose said “My parent aren't like that, my parents don’t care about race” (Get Out) She lied to him because she didn’t want him to change his mind and not go with her. She already knew the plan was to auction him off and for him to become a slave. The amount of racism taking place in this movie and book is unfair in many different ways. It shouldn't matter the color of your skin to get a job it should be determined by the skills you have and the quality of your work rather your Caucasian, African American or Jewish.
