Character Foils One instance of a foil from “To Kill A Mockingbird”, is of Bob Ewell and Walter Cunningham Both are poverty-stricken. Bob endeavor to do what is best with what they posses and the Ewell is cold-hearted and malign. Mr. Cunningham's are admired by the community while Mr.Ewell is loathed by members of Maycomb society. Mr. Cunningham's is noble and trustworthy, whereas Mr.Ewell's is a con artist.

In the book, “To Kill a Mockingbird”, by Harper Lee, Tom Robinson has been accused of raping Mayella Ewell. He is well known for being a Christian man, but Mr. Ewell claims he saw him raping his daughter. I believe Tom Robinson is innocent because of the Ewell family history, lack of evidence, and he has a disability that causes a problem with the testimony. The Ewell family is nowhere near perfect. Mr. Bob Ewell is known for his violent actions and words.
At the court, Atticus ask questions many times to Mayella Ewell what was really happened but Atticus didn’t believe what she says. More than that, Atticus ask question to Tom Robinson, and Atticus believe what he said. This makes Bob Ewell really angry and he said “nigger lover”. That's why in the movie, there was a scene where Bob Ewell comes up to Atticus, and ask him why he believes what Tom Robinson said, but not what Mayella said. Atticus replies, “I will do the best I could to defend Tom Robinson” and that’s why people who believed white is better started to get pissed
The Ewell’s were the kind of people in the county that should never be trusted, but once they were put in a situation regarding a black man, suddenly they were the truthful ones. Furthermore, during a conversation with Calpurnia on page 164, Scout thought about how believable the Ewells were, “‘It’s because of what folks say Tom’s done,” she said… ‘Old Mr. Bob Ewell accused him of rapin’ his girl an’ had him arrested an’ put in jail…’ ‘Why, Atticus said they were absolute trash - I never heard Atticus talk about folks the way he talked about the Ewells…’” The Ewell family had the reputation of being terrible people, and even Atticus said that. However, a majority of people in town still thought Bob Ewell to be speaking the truth because he was accusing an African American, and they are always below everyone
The clear villain in to kill a mockingbird is Bob Ewell. Ewell is sneaky, rude, and hostile towards Maycomb. Bob Ewell is best fit for the villain in To Kill A Mockingbird because he attempts to kill the Finch children, accuses a man for assaulting his daughter as an excuse for his own misdoing, and by hits his very own daughter. In the final pages of the book, Bob Ewell tries to kill the Finch children because of their father's efforts against him in the trial.

Journal 3 On pages 56 and 57, Sam and Hally fight over racist remarks. The events of pages 56 and 57 takes place after Hally makes a racist joke about being fair. His joke causes tension to escalate and causes Sam to lose respect for Hally. This scene is heartbreaking because it polarizes Hally and Sam.
Racism in The Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote the Great Gatsby in the mid-1920's, where some of the comments people said about the races would be seen as offensive or degrading. I think the reason Fitzgerald included these comments was because of the time period he wrote the story.
