The context of Andrew Carnegie becoming a captain of industry is from the Industrial Revolution. Industrialism is the expansion of factories and the mass production of manufactured goods like steel. The Industrial Revolution of the early 19th century set the foundation for the rise of Carnegie steel. He is a Captain of Industry because he used his money to build libraries and paid thousands of churches. His wealth helped out schools and non profit organizations. Andrew Carnegie saw something unfair one day, and decided he wanted to change something with it, and he did. In document 6, he was on a ferry boat with many other people and was asking each person how much money they made from their jobs. The people who had more dangerous jobs made around $1.40 or even less. The rest got around $2.25 a day. Some didn't even get paid. In 1897, Carnegie purchased Skibo castle, which was located in Dornoth Firth, Scotland. The renovation cost of this castle was $10,000,000. In document two, there was a change with civilization. Carnegie became a millionare from selling cottage. The people that were taking care of the cottage were the people that had a jb known as "labor." There was not anything evil with this, according to him. He called this "good" because race from wealth had the energy and ability to produce all of it and make good money out of it.
